The episode begins in Torch Port, a town that the protagonist Will has been rebuilding over the past two years. Will discusses with his friend Menel the importance of diversifying the town's trade and emphasizes that the paper he recently received from craftsmen is a step in that direction. They are invited by the brother of the crown prince of Whitesails to a New Year's ceremony.

The Winter Solstice festival takes place, and Will is exhausted from greeting the important guests. He thanks Menel and Bishop Bagley for their help. Bee, a troubadour, joins them, and they discuss the beauty of the town and the need to do more work.

Bee persuades Will to accompany her to the Academy, a school of magic. They encounter many magical obstacles but eventually meet Hiram, the caretaker and professor of the Academy. Hiram tests Will's moral stance on using magic for trivial purposes and finally allows them to enter the Academy.

Bee reveals that she is searching for information about a deceased sorceress friend to immortalize her in a song. She finds the books she needs, and they return to Torch Port. Bee shares her philosophy about the importance of heroes and how they give people hope. She vows to keep singing about heroes, including Will, to keep their stories alive.

At the end of the episode, Will reflects on Bee's fleeting nature and that she might return even if she leaves Torch Port for a while. He looks forward to the song Bee will compose about her sorcerer friend and is confident that his story will live on through her songs, even if it comes to an end.
