The episode begins with Will instructing his new Thane Ru in physical exercises and combat techniques. Will emphasizes the importance of muscle strength and introduces Ru to Menel, who will also participate in Ru's training. Will departs to attend a meeting and tend to the people he had previously treated, leaving Menel in charge of Ru's training.

During his absence, Will meets Reystov, a dwarf who served in the Iron Land. Reystov shares his past with Will and asks him to take good care of Ru. Reystov also joins Ru's training and offers him advice on posture and speech to uphold Will's reputation.

The episode takes a turn when reports arrive of undead sightings. Will decides to investigate the matter and takes Ru with him. They set out for the Pillar Mound in the west, a place shrouded in mist and unexplored due to its eerie atmosphere. Upon arrival, they discover it is a burial site guarded by a gravekeeper. Will explains to them that the god of the undead, Stagnate, grants his blessing to prevent a wretched death and shares his remarkably detailed knowledge about this deity.

As they venture deeper into the burial mound, they uncover an inner chamber. To their horror, they encounter Stagnate, who greets Will, as their last meeting had been two years prior.
