Sasaki and Peeps - Episode 3

The third episode of "Sasaki and Peeps" begins with Sasaki preparing a luxurious meal of Chateaubriand from Kobe beef as a thank-you for Peeps. Despite the warning not to feed such meat to Java sparrows, Peeps thoroughly enjoys the meal. Sasaki, enchanted by Peeps' cuteness, considers taking a photo but refrains.

Sasaki expresses his desire to learn barrier and healing magic. He discusses his plans for a relaxing evening, which are interrupted by news of an impending war. Müller, a nobleman, informs Sasaki that the Kingdom of Herz is threatened by the vast and powerful forces of the Ohgen Empire, which is nearly twice its size. Müller asks Sasaki for help in the war, acknowledging his unique abilities and contributions.

Despite his reluctance to get involved in a war, Sasaki learns of the kingdom’s dire situation, including food shortages and the need for supplies at the front. Müller reveals the tragic story of the Starreader, a skilled magician who maintained peace in the kingdom but was killed by vengeful nobles, leading to its downfall.

Sasaki offers his services in procuring supplies and negotiates with the Kepler Trading Company for a large stock of goods. He fulfills Müller’s request and impresses him with his efficiency. Curious about Sasaki’s abilities, Müller speculates about his magical powers but promises to keep them a secret.

Meanwhile, Sasaki learns about the extensive magical knowledge of the Starreader and discovers that Peeps is actually Piercarlo, the Starreader from another world. They discuss the war and possible interventions, with Peeps emphasizing the challenges of creation over destruction.

Sasaki tries to protect his restaurant and employees by declining a neighbor’s offer to massage his shoulders and donating bread for a raffle. Upon returning home, he hears of another fire and shares a cake with Peeps, who reflects on the nature of life and death after learning of Müller’s demise.

Sasaki, now promoted to Inspector of the National Police Agency, is tasked with recruiting psychics and working with Hoshizaki. He worries about Peeps’ well-being and their future actions amid the unfolding events in the kingdom.

The episode ends with the introduction of Lady Elsa, the daughter of Vicomte Müller. Following Müller’s death, a succession crisis arises, and Elsa’s safety becomes a concern. Sasaki is asked to provide communication and surveillance tools, leaving him with a sense of unease at the end of the episode.
