"Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid" is the second movie of the sequel anime project, adapting the eighth and ninth novels of the "Rascal Does Not Dream" franchise. The other part of this sequel project, 'Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out,' premiered in Japan on June 23rd and showed an encouraging performance at the box office.
The original "Rascal Does Not Dream" series began with a light novel titled "Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai," written by Hajime Kamoshida and published by Kadokawa in April 2014. This first novel was later made available to English-speaking audiences by Yen Press. The story was adapted into a 13-episode TV anime, which aired in Japan in October 2018.
The story was further expanded with the anime movie "Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl," which aired in Japan in June 2019. This movie adapts the sixth and seventh volumes of the light novel series.
