Shenmue the Animation will be released on February 5th

On Wednesday, Crunchyroll announced that Shenmue the Animation, the adaptation of Yu Suzuki's Shenmue game series, will premiere on February 6 on both Crunchyroll and Adult Swim. The announcement revealed the main cast, additional cast members, the opening theme, the first key visual, and the first promotional video. Singer-songwriter Kashitarou Itou (Deca-Dence Ending Theme) provides the opening theme "UNDEAD-NOID," which can be heard in the promotional video below.



The announced voice cast primarily includes details about the English dub:

- Masaya Matsukaze (JP) and Austin Tindle (EN) as Ryo Hazuki

- Takahiro Sakurai (JP) and Scott Gibbs (EN) as Lan Di

- Natalie Rial (EN) as Shenhua

- Cat Thomas (EN) as Nozomi Harasaki

- Jeremy Gee (EN) as Guizhang Chen

- Greg Ayres (EN) as Chai

- Bryson Baugus (EN) as Wong

- Luci Christian (EN) as Joy

- Christine Auten (EN) as Xiuying Hong

- Joe Daniels (EN) as Dou Niu

Crunchyroll describes the series as follows:

1985, Yokosuka. Ryo Hazuki has trained under his strict father at the Hazuki Dojo since childhood to master the Hazuki style of jujitsu. One day, however, a mysterious man named Lan Di murders his father and steals the "mirror" his father was protecting. Determined to uncover the truth behind his father's murder, Ryo soon finds himself caught in a war between underground organizations... Ryo travels from Yokosuka to Hong Kong, and his long journey begins!

SEGA released the first Shenmue game in 1999 in Japan and in 2000 in North America for its Dreamcast console. Shenmue II was released in 2000 in Japan and in 2001 in North America for the Dreamcast. Shenmue II also received an Xbox version in 2002. The series was originally planned as a trilogy.
