The fifth season of "The Rising of the Shield Hero" (Japanese: "Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari") will air in 2027. This was announced by the production team on July 4, 2026, during the Crunchyroll Industry Panel at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles. Alongside the announcement, a first teaser trailer and a teaser visual were released.

The monochrome key visual depicts the four Legendary Heroes – led by protagonist Naofumi Iwatani – along with the Hakuko siblings in a back-to-back composition. The red lettering, designed specifically for the fifth season, emphasizes the striking look. The teaser trailer offers initial glimpses into the story and also showcases the main characters, including Raphtalia.

Hitoshi Haga, who already directed the third and fourth seasons, will once again take the helm. Series composer Keigo Koyanagi and animation studio Kinema Citrus also remain committed to the project. The musical score is once again provided by Kevin Penkin, Alfredo Sirica, and Natalie Jeffreys. The main cast remains unchanged: Naofumi is voiced by Kaito Ishikawa, Raphtalia by Asami Seto, and Filo by Rina Hidaka.

In terms of content, the fifth season directly follows the events of the fourth season. Naofumi and his companions prepare for the upcoming battle against the menacing Phoenix – one of the most powerful beasts in the world. In doing so, they must cooperate with the three other Legendary Heroes as well as new allies. Director Haga stated in a comment: "The team and I are working with all our hearts to ensure that the audience can fully enjoy Naofumi and his friends' new adventure. We ask for your patience until the broadcast."

The series is based on the light novel series by Aneko Yusagi, which has been published by MF Books (KADOKAWA) since 2013. The first anime season aired in 2019, followed by Season 2 (2022), Season 3 (2023), and Season 4 (2025). Crunchyroll will stream the fifth season worldwide. An exact start date within 2027 has not yet been determined.

In parallel with the series, KADOKAWA also announced the launch of a global game project for PC and mobile devices, also based on the franchise – another sign of the enduring popularity of the Shield Hero universe.
