The creators of the anime 'Kaiju No. 8' have revealed further details about the original short film 'Narumi's Daily Life' (Japanese: 鳴海の平日). The short film, which was already announced at Jump Festa 2026 in December 2025, will be streamed in fall 2026. At the same time, the team released a key visual showing the captain of the first unit, Gen Narumi, in his office, completely absorbed in video games – fitting the slogan '#TodayAlsoTheStrongest'.

The story comes from Tsukasa Watanabe, the author of the spin-off manga 'Kaiju No. 8 RELAX', which is serialized in the magazine 'Saikyo Jump' (Shueisha). The short film promises a humorous look at the daily life of the otherwise serious captain. Studio Production I.G is once again responsible for the animation, with Shigeyuki Miya directing. The music is composed by Yuta Bando.

In addition to the short film, a live event titled 'Defense Force Bootcamp in Tachikawa' has been announced. It will take place on October 24, 2026, at the Tachikawa Stage Garden in Tokyo – the holy site of the series. The stage will feature voice actors Masaya Fukunishi (Kafka Hibino/Kaiju No. 8), Asami Seto (Mina Ashiro), Wataru Kato (Reno Ichikawa), Fairouz Ai (Kikoru Shinomiya), Kengo Kawanishi (Soshiro Hoshina), Yuki Shin (Iharu Furuhashi), Koki Uchiyama (Gen Narumi), and Hiroki Yasumoto (Eiji Hasegawa). Advance lottery sales began on May 30, 2026, via Lawson Ticket.

The announcement of the short film coincided with the confirmation of a final story arc for the main series, which will adapt the last chapters of Naoya Matsumoto's manga. Fans can look forward to two new works from the 'Kaiju No. 8' universe.
