The anime adaptation of the action-fantasy work Yūsha no Kuzu (English title: Scum of the Brave) has premiered. To introduce the plot, initial information and images for the opening chapter have been released.
The first chapter introduces the main characters. It shows the encounter between the lone contract killer Yashiro, known as the "Reaper", and the high school student Akie Shiromine. She is training to become a heroine and seeks Yashiro's help to rescue a friend. This contact draws the cynical loner into an unwanted mentor relationship and marks the beginning of a dangerous collaboration.
The series is set in mid-21st century Tokyo, where powerful crime bosses, so-called "Demon Lords", dominate the underworld. Opposing them are officially licensed "heroes", bounty hunters who utilize special abilities.
The series is being produced by Studio OLM under the direction of Shinji Ushiro. The main roles are voiced by Ryōta Suzuki (Yashiro) and Akari Kitō (Akie Shiromine).
For the series premiere, a new video has been released showing scenes from the plot. Additionally, there is a specially created illustration by the artist toi8, who also contributed the drawings for a newly published edition of the underlying novel source material.
The plot is originally based on a web novel by Rocket Shokai, which was later adapted into a manga by Nakashima723. In the same season, another work by the same author, Sentenced to Be a Hero, is being adapted into an anime.
