Studio Colorido, known for its distinctive animated films, will once again captivate audiences with its fourth feature film "The Contrarian Love and Hate." The film will be streamed worldwide simultaneously on Netflix on May 24 and will be released in theaters in Japan.

"The Contrarian Love and Hate" weaves a youthful fantasy around the unlikely connection between a boy and a demon girl. At the heart of the story is Shu Yatsey, a first-year high school student living in Yamagata Prefecture. Shu struggles with the desire to get along with others and the fear of not being liked, making him unable to say no to requests, which shapes him into a person who rarely refuses anything. This tendency leads him to a series of unpleasant encounters and leaves him without a close friend he could call a confidant. However, on a summer day, his daily life takes a turn when he meets Tsumugi, a demon girl searching for her mother in the human world.

The film boasts a stellar cast, with Kensho Ono as Shu Yatsey and Miyu Tomita bringing Tsumugi to life. The director is Tomohiko Shibayama, who made his directorial debut with "Wanting to Cry, I Pretend to Be a Cat." The screenplay is written by Yūko Kakihara, known for her work on the series "Chihayafuru" and "The Apothecary Diaries." Masashi Yokota and Naoto Chikaoka are responsible for character design and assistance, respectively.
