Studio Ghibli classic on Netflix for the first time: "Spirited Away" from July 1, 2026

Netflix is expanding its anime offerings with one of the most significant and successful films in Japanese animation history: Hayao Miyazaki's "Spirited Away" will be available worldwide on the streaming platform from July 1, 2026. The 2001 film by Studio Ghibli won, among other awards, the Oscar for Best Animated Feature and is considered a masterpiece of animated film. The story follows the young girl Chihiro, who enters a ghostly parallel world and must work in a bathhouse for gods to save her parents. The film captivates with its detailed animation, profound themes, and imaginative storytelling. Until now, "Spirited Away" was only available through physical media or time-limited licensing. Netflix states that it will offer the film in its original Japanese language version as well as numerous dubbed versions. The addition to the catalog is part of a broader collaboration between Netflix and Studio Ghibli, which already includes several titles from the studio.
