The first visual for the anime "Hikari ga Shinda Natsu" (English: "The Summer Hikaru Died"), based on the manga by Mokumokuren, has been released. The story combines horror elements with a glimpse into the everyday lives of two teenagers in the remote town of Kubitachi. At the center is Yoshiki Tsujinaka, a student who realizes that his childhood friend Hikaru has been replaced by a mysterious entity. Together with this new "Hikaru," Yoshiki finds himself increasingly entangled in eerie and threatening situations that challenge his sense of normality.
The newly unveiled image shows Yoshiki and "Hikaru" under a clear sky in the rural landscape. Notably, "Hikaru's" menacing presence, looming behind Yoshiki, draws attention. Additionally, the official character designs for Yoshiki Tsujinaka and Hikaru were revealed simultaneously.
CygamesPictures is responsible for the production, while direction and script composition are handled by Ryōhei Takeshita. The main roles are voiced by Chiaki Kobayashi as Yoshiki and Shūichirō Umeda as Hikaru.
