Netflix had a series of anime announcements to make this week at the Annecy Film Festival, including another project based on the work of comic author Mark Millar. The Super Crooks graphic novel by Mark Millar and Leinil Yu will be a Netflix Original with the director of Carole & Tuesday, Motonobu Hori, who also directed an episode of BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad and worked as an animator on a number of major projects, at the helm.
Dai Sato (Cowboy Bebop) is involved in the series composition, Takafumi Mitani (animation director on My Hero Academia) is handling the character designs, and Stanislas Brunet (mechanical design on Macross Delta) is working on the concept design for the BONES production.
The series follows small-time crook Johnny Bolt, who plans one last heist with superpowers and assembles a team of the world's best criminals to pull it off.
Marvel Comics' imprint Icon Comics describes the comic:
One last heist. That's what they all say, right? Just one last job, and everyone can retire and go fishing. Thing is, the prisons are full of super-villains who thought the same thing and got caught. But the Heat is in a bind. He's racked up the kind of gambling debts that—if he can't pay them back in cash—will be paid in blood. Nobody wants to see the most popular supercrook of all time wiped out by the mob—least of all his biggest fan, Johnny Bolt. And Johnny's got a plan to help the Heat while making all his pals disgustingly rich. Unfortunately, Johnny's recruits have to go to Spain and rob the most notorious super-villain in the world blind. And that's where things get tricky.
