The summer anime "Super no Ura de Yani Suu Futari" (Smoking Break Behind the Supermarket) has released first stills from the first episode. They show how the overworked employee Sasaki and the eccentric young woman Tayama meet for the first time – at the secret smoking spot behind a supermarket.

The story: Sasaki, a worn-out office worker, finds his only solace in smoking and the friendly smile of the cashier Yamada. One evening after his shift, when he misses seeing her and also can't find a place to smoke, an unusually dressed woman named Tayama speaks to him: "You can smoke here." Thus begins an unusual but intimate relationship between two adults who are neither friends nor lovers – and who share their own unique secrets.

The manga source material by Jinushi started on Twitter (now X) in March 2022 and quickly became a viral hit: the first post received over 280,000 likes. Since August 2022, the series has been serialized in the magazine "Monthly Big Gangan" (Square Enix). It won the Next Manga Award 2022 in the web category and has now reached a circulation of over three million copies (as of January 2026).

The anime adaptation is produced by Asahi Production. Direction is handled by Tadato Suzuki and Aoi Mori, series composition by Mio Inoue, and character design by Tomoka Otaki. The music is composed by Shin Kono and Sayaka Aoki. The main roles are voiced by Takuya Sato (Sasaki) and Seena Hoshiki (Yamada/Tayama). Additional voice actors include Toa Yukinari, Megumi Toyoguchi, Rikuya Yasuda, Yoko Hikasa, and Shinya Takahashi.

The opening theme for the TV version is contributed by the band ZUTOMAYO, while the ending theme is by imase. Even before the TV premiere, a limited advance version with twelve mini-episodes (abridged versions of the first six episodes) is available on ABEMA. The streaming service Crunchyroll also offers these mini-episodes internationally.

The first episode will air on July 9, 2026, at 11:56 PM on Japanese television (TBS network, 28 stations). Simultaneously, it will air on AT-X starting July 12. Streams on ABEMA and Netflix begin on July 10 at 12:30 AM. The series is planned for a total of twelve episodes.
