The episode begins with Naofumi Iwatani, the Shield Hero, reflecting on the current state of the world. After defeating the Spirit Tortoise, one of the four Guardian Beasts, Naofumi and his companions Raphtalia and Filo have a three-and-a-half-month break before the next Guardian Beast, the Phoenix, resurrects. However, their powers are weakened by a curse from a previous battle. Naofumi is troubled by the presence of foreign armies and the disappearance of the three other heroes—Motoyasu, Ren, and Itsuki.

Queen Melromarc informs Naofumi that Faubrey has stationed soldiers near their borders, calling it a "relief effort." She also mentions that they have been unable to contact most of the Seven Star Heroes, except for the Staff Hero, who is currently in Melromarc. Naofumi agrees to accompany her to meet this hero.

Naofumi, Raphtalia, and Filo travel to Zeltoble, a land of merchants and mercenaries, to buy the freedom of slaves from Lurolona Village, which is now under Naofumi's protection. They discover an underground auction where slaves are being sold at inflated prices. Naofumi learns that the "Lurolona brand" he created has driven up the prices.

To raise funds, Naofumi decides to participate in an underground arena where anything goes. Under false identities, Naofumi, Raphtalia, and Filo form a team called "Rockvalley" and enter the fights. They intentionally appear weak to deceive the audience and improve the betting odds in their favor. Ultimately, they win a match against the veteran team Topak, surprising the crowd and earning a substantial amount of money.
