A new teaser image and a first promotional video for the upcoming second season of the fantasy anime series Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru (English title: From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman) have been released. The materials provide a first look at the continuation of the story about the swordsmanship instructor Beryl Gardenant.

The released still image shows the protagonist Beryl Gardenant in a nighttime training hall. He holds a wooden sword and looks seriously towards his father, Mordea Gardenant, who stands before him. The promotional video released in parallel, however, focuses on scenes from everyday life and shows interactions between Beryl and his students.

The series follows Beryl Gardenant, a swordsmanship instructor in his forties who runs a small school in a rural village. Although he considers himself quite ordinary, his former students become influential and powerful figures in the kingdom. Through an invitation from a former student, he is forced to leave his home and takes a position as an instructor for the knights of the Liberion Order in the capital. There, he meets many of his former students again and must confront the new challenges of city life.

The anime is an adaptation of the light novel series of the same name by author Shigeru Sagazaki. The first season was produced by the studios Passione and Hayabusa Film under the direction of Akio Kazumi. In an interview, director Kazumi emphasized the careful design of the sword fight scenes, which considered differences between Japanese and Western European fighting styles. He described the core of the story as a narrative about personal growth and the recognition of one's own abilities.

Hiroaki Hirata, the Japanese voice actor for the main character Beryl, also commented on the character. He described Beryl's modesty as one of his central and likable traits, even though he possesses extraordinary skills. Hirata sees few similarities with the role he voices, but named the enjoyment of a drink after work as a possible parallel.

With the second season, the story of Beryl Gardenant and his students continues. The continuation is scheduled for mid-2026. The release of the new visual materials marks the start of the promotional campaign for the upcoming episodes.
