TMS Entertainment describes the anime's premise as the unpredictable and chaotic interaction between Fuuko Izumo, a girl whose special ability, Unluck, brings unintended harm to others, and Andy, an immortal man who yearns for death. Fuuko, who has resolved to end her life due to her destructive power, encounters Andy, who cannot die despite his wishes. This meeting gives Fuuko a new purpose in life and offers Andy a possible answer to his eternal existence.

The team working on the "Undead Unluck" anime includes many who previously contributed to the anime "Fire Force." Yuki Yase serves as the director at David Production, while Hideyuki Morioka handles the animation character designs. The music composition is entrusted to Kenichiro Suehiro. The production and planning for the anime are managed by UNLIMITED PRODUCE by TMS.

The main cast of the anime includes Moe Kahara as Fuuko Izumo, Yūichi Nakamura as Andy, Kenji Nomura as Void, and Natsuki Hanae as Shen.

The original "Undead Unluck" manga was first published as a one-shot in Weekly Shonen Jump in January 2019 and later serialized in the same magazine in January 2020.
