"The Angel Next Door": Counter Video Shows How Often Mahiru Says "Shu-kun" – and Reveals New Voice

Ahead of the second season of "The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten" (Japanese title: "Otonari no Tenshi-sama ni Itsu no Ma ni ka Dame Ningen ni Sareteita Ken"), a special video was shown at AnimeJapan 2026: a "Shu-kun" counter. It counts how many times the female protagonist Mahiru Shiina addresses the male protagonist Amane Fujimiya as "Shu-kun" in the first season. The result: a total of 180 times. The video was presented on stage at the Tokyo event, which took place on March 29. The clip was accompanied by a new "Angel" visual of the heroine. It was also announced that Marika Takano will take on the role of Ayaka Kido in the second season. The romantic comedy revolves around the neighbors Amane and Mahiru, whose relationship slowly develops from a purely practical arrangement into a love story. The second season will now show the couple as an established romantic pair. The anime will start in spring 2026 – the first episode will air on Tokyo MX and other channels on April 3.
