In Episode 20, despite her injuries, Maomao prepares to inform Jinshi, Gaoshun, and Basen about her knowledge of a recent disaster. She explains the alleged plan of the conspirators.

The plot intensifies when it turns out that Suirei, the suspected mastermind, has been found dead in her room from poisoning and is soon to be cremated. Maomao requests to examine Suirei, remembering that Suirei had spoken of a "resurrection medicine." Upon inspection, she discovers that the body in the coffin is not Suirei, suggesting that Suirei is still alive and her death was faked.

As Maomao's investigation uncovers Suirei's elaborate conspiracy, the narrative shifts focus to Jinshi. Once again, it is hinted that Jinshi is not, as previously assumed, a eunuch but rather the nineteen-year-old brother of the current emperor. Under the pretense of managing the Inner Palace, he has disguised himself as a eunuch or is playing the "role of Jinshi," implying that this may not even be his real name. This revelation is tied to the complicated royal succession situation and the emperor's efforts to produce an heir (without a direct descendant from the emperor, Jinshi would be first in line for the throne). Similarly, the episode also hints at possible changes within the imperial family, as Jinshi spreads news of Gyokuyou's alleged pregnancy.

Maomao is sent back to the Inner Palace to care for Gyokuyou, a sign of Jinshi's trust in her abilities. Additionally, other men, including her biological father, are not permitted to visit the Inner Palace, which also aligns with Maomao's interests.
