In this new season, two visitors come to bring books to Maomao. This seemingly insignificant delivery soon sparks a growing interest in writings throughout the palace. Meanwhile, Jinshi and Gaoshun receive various concubines before visiting Maomao in the palace clinic. There, Maomao demonstrates how certain oils can have potent effects, leading Jinshi to consider possible regulations for these substances.

When Maomao finally receives her books, she arouses the curiosity of those around her. In a conversation with Xiaolan, it becomes clear that these texts could expand the knowledge of the palace staff. Thus, a plan is formed to copy and distribute the books. Eventually, Maomao begins teaching some of the women how to read and write.

Later, Gyokuyou asks Maomao to accompany Lingli on a walk. During their stroll, they follow a stray cat, which is eventually caught by an unknown girl. The girl silently hands the cat over to Maomao and disappears. The cat is first taken to the quack Guen and later attracts attention in the Jade Pavilion, where the Emperor assigns it an official place in the palace.

Toward the end of the episode, Maomao receives news of a caravan's arrival. The episode concludes with the image of two mysterious women arriving with the caravan.
