Jinshi takes Maomao on a hunting trip to the northern region of Shihoku-shu, controlled by the powerful Lord Shishou, under false pretenses. During the journey, the tense political situation becomes apparent: Shishou invites Jinshi to exert influence over the imperial family. Jinshi wears a mask to conceal his identity and refuses suspiciously stimulating foods, arousing Maomao's suspicion. They are accompanied by Basen, Gaoshun's son, who supports Jinshi.

During the hunt, the situation escalates when assassins fire at Jinshi with a feifa—a blackpowder firearm. To escape the danger, Jinshi and Maomao leap down a 50-meter waterfall and survive in a hard-to-reach grotto. There, they sustain themselves with herbs and plan their escape, while Jinshi is on the verge of revealing his biggest secret (his true identity) to Maomao. Meanwhile, Gaoshun and Lihaku, who assists with a tracking dog, search for the missing pair.

The episode ends on a cliffhanger: The assassins hide the weapon, while Jinshi and Maomao unsuccessfully attempt to climb out of the grotto.
