"The Detective Is Already Dead": Second Trailer for Season 2 Released – Anime Series Celebrates Fifth Anniversary

On July 4, 2026, exactly five years after the first season's premiere, the anime "The Detective Is Already Dead" (original title: "Tantei wa Mou, Shindeiru.") released a second trailer for its second season, which will start in October 2026. The trailer shows new scenes and provides a deeper insight into the plot of "Season 2," which directly continues the events of the first season.

Alongside the trailer, updated character visuals of the main characters were released: Kimihiko Kimizuka, the legendary detective Siesta, Nagisa Natsunagi, the idol Yui Saikawa, and Charlotte Arisaka Anderson. The illustrations highlight the emotional development of the characters, who are at the center of the new season.

The musical accompaniment for the second season was also revealed. Both the background music and the opening and ending songs come from producer 40mP. The opening "Kono Shinzou ni Hanataba wo" is sung by Kokorone, while the ending "Hakuchuumu" is performed by Kagura Nana. 40mP emphasized in a statement that the songs reflect the inner conflicts and longings of the characters.

For the fifth anniversary of the anime's broadcast, the voice actors and production team sent congratulations and personal comments. Among the well-wishers were Arata Nagai (voice of Kimizuka), Saki Miyashita (Siesta), Ayana Taketatsu (Nagisa), Kanon Takao (Yui), and Saho Shirasu (Charlotte), as well as the author of the original novel series Nigozyu, illustrator Umibozu, director Manabu Kurihara, screenwriter Deko Akao, and character designer Yosuke Ito. All involved were moved that the series still receives so much support after five years and are looking forward to the continuation.

As part of the "Five-Year Five-Projects" campaign, a cover of the first season's opening ("Koko de Ikiteru") sung by Saki Miyashita was also released as a music video. The video shows a specially drawn illustration of Siesta lying in a field of flowers. Additionally, the first motif of the new "Seasons Visual and Drama" series was presented: a summer image of Nagisa Natsunagi. The accompanying drama will be released on July 5, 2026, on KADOKAWA Anime's YouTube channel.

Furthermore, it was announced that the 14th volume of the underlying light novel series will be released in Japanese bookstores on October 23, 2026. The cover artwork has already been released.

The second season of "The Detective Is Already Dead" will air on Japanese television starting October 2026. It continues the story of high school student Kimizuka, who, one year after the death of detective Siesta, is hired by a new client—Nagisa Natsunagi—and becomes entangled in a dangerous mystery once again. Manabu Kurihara returns as director at Studio ENGI. The series is based on the light novel series of the same name by Nigozyu (text) and Umibozu (illustrations), which has been published by Media Factory since 2019.
