In Episode 11, Tokiyuki and his companions arrive at the farming village of Shinano during the barley harvest festival. They witness Yonemaru, an agent of Kiyohara, the governor of Shinano, harassing the villagers and demanding their second harvest. Sadamune reminds Kiyohara that, according to the rules of the old Kamakura shogunate, only the first rice harvest is taxable, but Kiyohara uses his imperial-granted authority to override these rules. When a villager demands the return of his barley, Kiyohara orders his men to kill him, demonstrating his ruthless rule.

Yorishige informs Tokiyuki that Hoshina has raised an army to oppose Kiyohara but predicts their inevitable defeat. Since Yorishige cannot send reinforcements, he tasks Tokiyuki and his friends with traveling to Kawanaka to persuade Hoshina to abandon his rebellion and help them escape the impending danger. Tokiyuki sets out on this mission with Genba, Kojiro, and Fubuki, leaving Ayako and Shizuku behind due to the risks of the journey.

Upon reaching Hoshina's stronghold, they learn that he is determined to die rather than submit to Kiyohara. Tokiyuki hesitates to confront Hoshina due to his proud demeanor. Shinomiya, a neighboring leader, welcomes them and agrees to support them after receiving a document from the Grand Shrine of Suwa. He proposes a strategy to persuade Hoshina and offers to gather more allies if necessary.

Meanwhile, Kiyohara and Sukefusa observe Hoshina's army and launch an attack. As Hoshina's forces falter, Genba creates a smoke screen by burning barley and flattens the battlefield. Kojiro bravely joins the fray, inspiring Tokiyuki to hope that this courage might convince Hoshina to retreat. Tokiyuki confronts Hoshina and urges him to withdraw, but Hoshina initially refuses. With Shinomiya's help, Hoshina finally agrees to move north and devise a new strategy.

Back in Kiyohara's camp, Yonemaru is punished for his failure on the battlefield. Sukefusa informs Kiyohara of Hoshina's possible retreat, but Kiyohara is displeased and vows to destroy Hoshina, Tokiyuki, and their allies to achieve eternal peace. The episode ends with Tokiyuki and Kojiro reflecting on their partial success until they notice Yonemaru and his troops pursuing them. They flee during the chase.
