Episode 4 begins with Takauji's visit to Emperor Godaigo. Godaigo praises Takauji's deeds in Kamakura and offers him a new position at the court. Takauji declines and instead requests posts for his followers. Takauji's steward Moronao expresses his concern that Takauji is losing his humanity. Takauji assigns Sadamune to observe Yorishige and Tokiyuki.

In the village of Suwa, Tokiyuki trains physically but fails. Yorishige suggests focusing on Tokiyuki's archery and evasion skills. While Tokiyuki practices, Sadamune appears and orders him to search the village for members of the Hojo clan. Yorishige skillfully deflects Sadamune's suspicion and hides Tokiyuki and the others. Sadamune uses his exceptional eyesight to notice suspicious children but leaves the village without confirming Tokiyuki's identity.

Later, Sadamune returns for a dog-shooting competition and proposes a wager: if he wins, he can search the houses of Suwa. Yorishige accepts the bet, trusting in Tokiyuki's abilities. During the competition, Sadamune displays impressive archery skills, but Tokiyuki, competing under the alias Chojumaru, deftly dodges and scores. Sadamune grows increasingly frustrated as Tokiyuki evades his shots.

The competition intensifies when Sadamune hits Tokiyuki in the head. Despite the injury, Tokiyuki enjoys the challenge.
