Kadokawa released the third trailer for the anime The Eminence in Shadow (Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!) on its YouTube channel. This new video introduces additional voice actors as well as more members of the production team and confirms the series' release date as October 5th.



Following this announcement, two new seiyū are joining the series' cast: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Hyoro Gari and Shin Matsuhige as Jaga Imo.

Additional staff members include Beom Seon Lee as Art Director, Naoto Tanaka and Junko Okazaki as Color Artists, Daichi Kitahara as Prop Designer, Takeshi Hiroota as Cinematographer, and Kentaro Tsubone as Editor. On the sound side, Kenichiro Suehiro is composing the soundtrack, Jin Aketagawa is serving as Sound Director, and Magic Capsule is producing. Hiroshi Nakamura will be the Animation Producer.

Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! is a light novel series written by Daisuke Aizawa. The work began serialization on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in May 2017 and was later published in print by Kadokawa with illustrations by Tōzai.

Yen Press licensed the original The Eminence in Shadow light novel series in English and describes the plot as follows:

Even in his previous life, Cid’s dream wasn’t to become a protagonist or a final boss. He’d rather lie low as a minor character until it’s time to reveal he’s a mastermind…or at least, do the next best thing—pretend to be one! And now that he’s been reborn into another world, he’s ready to set the perfect conditions to live out his dreams to the fullest. Armed with his overactive imagination, Cid jokingly recruits members to his organization and fabricates an entire backstory about an evil cult that they must defeat. As luck would have it, these imaginary adversaries turn out to be the real deal—and everyone but him knows the truth!
