Episode 3 of "The Fable" begins with a phone call between Takeshi and Takahashi, in which Takahashi reports on the recent actions against Fable but assures that Yoko was not harmed. Meanwhile, Takeshi meets with a black-market arms dealer named Matsu, who supplies him with .38 caliber bullets. The two briefly discuss their business and the need to maintain their current "ecosystem."

Takeshi tests his weapon by firing into the sky. He instructs him to focus on the street and keep an eye out for cameras and enemies. The scene shifts to Fable at home, where he watches his favorite comedian on TV and struggles to understand his boss's words. He turns to Yoko, who interprets that their boss wants them to get pets. Subsequently, Fable and Yoko visit a market called Loshin, Lohnan, where they explore a pet store after Yoko unsuccessfully searches for curtains.

In the pet store, Fable is drawn to a bird that reminds him of the emblem of his favorite gun, and he decides to buy it. He also notices a person connected to Takahashi and the events of the previous night. Fable lures the man away while Yoko stays in the store. Meanwhile, Takahashi orders his ally to follow Fable and commands another employee to prepare for a confrontation.

Fable is pursued by Takahashi's men but manages to escape them by jumping off a bridge. He reunites with Yoko, who chooses a hamster and informs Fable that the desired parrot costs 190,000 yen. Back at Fable's apartment, Yoko explains how to care for the parrot before leaving. Fable names the parrot Captain.

Elsewhere, Takahashi and Takeshi discuss Fable's latest actions. Takahashi suggests that Fable pursue Yoko romantically and offers him money to gather information from her. Fable has a playful but painful interaction with Captain, and Yoko bonds with her new hamster.

Takeshi confronts Fable about using the garage as a training space and arranges a private meeting with him. Yoko agrees to go out with Takahashi after he proposes showing her around the city, though she initially insisted that Fable accompany her.

Later, Takeshi asks Fable to prove his skills by picking a fight with a large man who wronged Takeshi's boss. Takeshi believes this is necessary for Fable and Yoko to stay in the city. Meanwhile, Takahashi and Yoko meet for a casual outing at a restaurant. The episode ends with Fable preparing to confront the large man as per Takeshi's arrangement, putting on a mask and approaching his target.
