The light novel "The Fish That Got Away Was Big, But The One I Caught Was Too Big" by Momoyo Manyou is receiving a television series adaptation. The broadcast is planned for spring 2026.

The story centers on Maria Annovazzi, the youngest daughter of the esteemed House Annovazzi, which is known for its martial arts tradition. Although she is a woman, Maria was designated as the main heir due to her martial prowess. This situation changes with the birth of a younger brother, which prompts her to study in the neighboring Kingdom of Rubini and to search for a marriage partner. At her graduation ball, however, a prince named Renato, whom she has never met before, publicly announces the dissolution of an engagement she knows nothing about. The series is described as a turbulent romance with a battle-hardened noblewoman.

The production team for the adaptation is confirmed. Direction is handled by Ouguro Akira, while Yoshiko Yokote is responsible for series composition. The character designs are created by Suzuki Yu and the animations are produced by Studio TROYCA.

Furthermore, the main cast of voice actors has been announced. Maria Annovazzi is voiced by Serizawa Yu. Renato di Rubini receives his voice from Tamaru Atsushi. Further roles include Hayami Saori as Aida Ametis, Umeda Shuichiro as Placido di Rubini and Yashiro Taku as Raimondo Chigata.

Accompanying the announcement, a special teaser image was released, newly illustrated by character designer Suzuki Yu. It shows Maria in an elegant dress, with her fist gripping a striking weapon. Additionally, a promotional video was provided, showing Maria's confusion after the unexpected rejection as well as comedic moments of the various characters.
