Touken Ranbu - Trailer gives hints of upcoming anime film

Aniplex and ufotable confirmed today in a video that their planned anime film project for the Katsugeki: Touken Ranbu TV anime is still in production. Aniplex also streamed a video teaser to coincide with the announcement.



There is no information yet about a possible release date. However, the announcement states that "planning is underway."

Aniplex of America describes the anime's story as follows:

The year is 1863, the turbulent samurai era is nearing its end, and Japan is divided between pro- and anti-Shogunate factions. The fate of the world is threatened when an army of history revisionists is sent from the future to alter the course of history. To defeat these forces and protect the true history, two sword warriors—spirits of swords brought to life by a Saniwa (a sage)—rush to Edo. The polite and thoughtful Horikawa Kunihiro and the short-tempered yet skilled Izuminokami Kanesada, who once served the same master, confront the invading army alongside a lively band of other warriors, including Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki, Yagen Toushirou, Tombokiri, and Tsurumaru Kuninaga.

The fate of history lies in the hands of these heroes, and what meets the blade has yet to be revealed...
