Trailer for the anime film "The Elegy of the Undead"

A new teaser and a series of still images offer a glimpse of the upcoming zombie animation film "The Elegy of the Undead." The film, which hits theaters on December 22, is an impressive fusion of AI and motion-capture technologies.

Directed by Ryo Nakajima, the screenplay is written by Takahiro Tsuzuki and Reiko Honjo. The cast includes Ryogoi Nagae, Yurika Nakamura, Rika Mayama, and James Takeo Yamada.

The story is set in a Japan ravaged by a zombie virus, where the infected are quarantined by the government behind a massive wall unless they are deemed curable. The narrative follows the poet Rei and his sister Yuna, who are cared for by the doctor Rika. As the three struggle through this harrowing existence, a zombie outbreak breaches the wall, prompting Rika to suggest fleeing the country for treatment. However, Rei insists on returning home to face death head-on. Amid this chaos, they journey to a remote land that transforms into a nightmarish realm of the grotesque. The characters grapple with the meaning of life in a world filled with despair.
