The 12th episode of the anime Trigun Stampede concluded with the announcement that the "final phase" of the series has been released. Trigun Stampede premiered in Japan on January 7.

The story of the first series (not the current one, see episode reviews) follows Vash the Stampede, a gunslinger with a 60 billion double-dollar bounty on his head, whose presence in any town leads to destruction caused by eager bounty hunters. Kenji Mutou directed the anime at Orange, with Kouji Tajima serving as concept designer and Takehiko Oxi handling the story design. Tatsuya KatÅ composed the music.
The Trigun anime adapts the manga of the same name by Yasuhiro Nightow, which was serialized in Tokuma Shoten's Monthly Shonen Captain from 1995 to 1997.
