At Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles, the long-awaited television series adaptation of the action manga "MURCIÉLAGO-ムルシエラゴ-" by Kana Yoshimura was officially confirmed. The series is set to premiere in 2027. Along with the announcement, the producers released a super teaser trailer, a teaser visual, and initial comments from the creative team.

The story revolves around Kuroko Koumori, a former death row inmate who, through extraordinary legal measures, becomes a state-sanctioned executioner. By her side is her partner Hinako Tozakura, a master driver with exceptional skills. Together, they target society's most dangerous criminals—a wild, unconventional buddy-action mix of black humor, violence, and horror.

The manga has been serialized in Square Enix's "Young Gangan" magazine since August 2013 and has achieved a worldwide circulation of over 2.3 million copies. The 29th volume is set to be released on July 24, 2026, in Japan. The English version is distributed by Yen Press.

Takashi Naoya, known for works such as "Tales of Wedding Rings" and "Am I Actually the Strongest?", serves as Chief Director and Series Composer. Direction is handled by Matsuo Asami, who previously worked as Assistant Director on "Übel Blatt". Character design is overseen by Sei Tateishi, while Masanori Akita and Yuichi Tsuchiya compose the music. Animation production is shared by studios Satelight ("Helck", "Macross Frontier") and Staple Entertainment ("Tales of Wedding Rings", "Watari-kun's XX is on the verge of collapse").

Author Kana Yoshimura expressed her joy in a statement: "Ever since I decided to become a manga artist, an anime adaptation has been one of my biggest dreams. Thanks to the support and cooperation of all readers and those involved, this dream has now come true. I can't wait to see Kuroko and the others in motion on screen. I hope you will continue to support both the original manga and the anime."

Chief Director Takashi Naoya explained that his focus is on adapting the source material into a single cour (about 12 episodes) without losing its appeal. He thanked the author for her valuable input. Director Matsuo Asami confirmed that recording is already underway: "We are in the middle of voice actor recordings, and the performances of Kuroko and Hinako are so captivating that they often exceed our own expectations. The team is working hard to capture the stylish crime-action spirit of the source material, pushing the erotic-grotesque elements to the limits of broadcast standards. We are putting particular effort into the car chase scenes, which are being realized in spectacular 3D sequences with Satelight's CG department."

Streaming service HIDIVE secured exclusive simulcast rights for the USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. The anime is expected to be available on HIDIVE in 2027.

To celebrate the announcement, the official X account (@murcielago_anm) launched a campaign where five randomly selected participants can win a special super teaser visual poster. The campaign runs until July 12, 2026.

Further details regarding the specific broadcast date, voice actors, and music will be announced at a later time.
