The anime adaptation of "Game World Tensei (Dan-katsu) ~Gamer wa [Dungeon Shūkatsu no Susume] o (Hajime kara) Play Suru~" – short "Dan-katsu" – will air on Japanese television starting in January 2027. The production team announced this on the occasion of the release of the teaser visual and super teaser PV. Accordingly, Yūto Uemura takes on the lead role of the protagonist Zephyrus.

The teaser visual shows Zephyrus in the uniform of the Labyrinth Academy, the main setting of the story, with a determined gaze. While one half of the character wears the school uniform, the other half depicts his appearance as a hero after the class awakening in pixel art style. The also released super teaser PV celebrates the upcoming broadcast start and rhythmically chants the series title "Dan-katsu."

Behind the production are director Miyazaki Nagisa as well as Yūji Kobayashi, who is responsible for series composition and screenplay. The animation is produced at STUDIO MASSKET. The source material is the novel series by Nishikigi Kaede with illustrations by Akari, published by TO Books; the manga version by Asagi Hiroshi has been serialized in the magazine Comic Corona EX since 2022. According to the publisher, the series has achieved a total circulation of more than 400,000 copies.

The story begins with a hardcore gamer who has invested more than 8,000 hours in the fictional role-playing game "Dungeon Shūkatsu no Susume" – a game with 1,021 selectable classes and over 400 possible endings. One day, he awakens as Zephyrus in exactly this game world. Instead of playing from the outside, he now experiences the adventures firsthand, secures the strongest class "Hero," and assembles a group of companions to conquer the dungeons together.

Voice actor Yūto Uemura expressed enthusiasm in a statement about the idea of living as Zephyrus in a beloved game: He wants to convey the character's joy of playing expressively. Asked about his desired class in case of his own reincarnation, the voice actor, who practiced kendo during his school days, named the swordsman. Director Miyazaki Nagisa sent a wink-wink homage to the game in his comment, jokingly asking the hero for items acquired in the game.

As early as March 2026, the series adaptation had been officially announced; at that time, author Nishikigi Kaede also commented. With January 2027, the concrete broadcast date is now set. Further details about the cast and the start will be announced by the producers via the official website and the official X account.
