The long-awaited adaptation of the classic manga 'Kanata kara' (From Far Away) by Kyouko Hikawa will air on Japanese television in October 2026. According to the official production committee, the series will be broadcast on TOKYO MX, ABC Television, and WOWOW. It will premiere on October 4, 2026, on TOKYO MX at 24:00 (JST), followed by ABC Television on October 10 at 26:30, and WOWOW on October 13 at 24:00. WOWOW will stream all episodes for free.

Produced to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the manga's first publication, the series is directed by Noriyuki Abe (known for 'Arslan Senki'). Series composition is handled by Rika Takasugi, character design by Eiji Yasuhiko, and music composed by Takeshi Hama (Cosmic Wave). Studio Dean is responsible for animation. Author Kyouko Hikawa herself serves as supervisor, overseeing the production.

The main roles feature a prominent cast: Actress and voice actress Tomoyo Kurosawa voices the protagonist Noriko Tachiki. Kentaro Kumagai voices the silent warrior wanderer Izark Kia Tarj. Yuichiro Umehara takes on the role of the power-hungry leader Rachef, while Eiji Takeuchi portrays the arrogant fighter Keimos Lee Goda.

Tomoyo Kurosawa expressed her excitement: "When I read the manga for the audition, Noriko's unpretentious, wholesome nature deeply moved me. I want to capture her soul as fully as possible. Recording is already underway, and I am intensely focused on bringing Noriko to life."

Kentaro Kumagai, who voices Izark, explained: "Izark is taciturn, awkward, yet gentle. I want to pour all my strength into depicting how he, together with Noriko, defies the adversities of fate. I look forward to taking viewers into this magnificent, multi-layered world."

Yuichiro Umehara, who plays the antagonist Rachef, commented: "Rachef is a Machiavellian, very human character. I enjoy portraying the negative sides of humanity. Since the series started around the time of my birth, I feel a special connection to this project." Eiji Takeuchi, who voices Keimos, added: "Keimos is arrogant and pure in his pursuit of strength. I will give my all to fill this role as a convincing adversary."

Alongside the announcement, the production team released a teaser visual and a teaser PV, which already includes snippets of the voices of the aforementioned cast members. On the official X account (@kanatakara_anm), a giveaway is also running where three winners can receive a signed teaser poster of the main voice cast.

'Kanata kara' is based on a fantasy manga serialized from 1991 to 2002 in the magazine LaLa (Hakusensha). The total circulation exceeds 4 million copies. In 2004, the work received the prestigious Seiun Award for Best Science Fiction Story of the Year. The story follows high school girl Noriko, who is transported to a strange world, and the wandering warrior Izark. Together, they must confront an ancient prophecy and stop the feared sky demon—a tale full of adventure, romance, and existential decisions.
