The light novel series 'Kaketa Tsuki no Mercedes – Kyūketsuki no Kizoku ni Tensei Shitakedo Sute Rare Sōnanode Dungeon o Seiha Suru' (Mercedes and the Waning Moon) by author Firehead is receiving a TV adaptation. The anime will premiere in January 2027, as announced by publisher TO Books together with the production committee. At the same time, a teaser visual, a first promo trailer, as well as the main cast and staff were released.

The story follows Mercedes Grünewald, a young vampire who, as the reincarnation of a Japanese office worker, gets a second life. Abandoned by her noble father and his concubine, she decides to descend into dangerous dungeons as a seeker to support her family and fight for a self-determined existence. In doing so, she stumbles upon the great secret of the labyrinth and dark creatures in its depths.

The lead role of Mercedes is taken on by Anna Nagase, who was awarded the Seiyū Award as best newcomer in 2023. The director's chair is occupied by Kunihisa Sugishima, with series composition by Jun Kumagai. Character designs are created by Nami Ueyama, and the music is contributed by R・O・N and Shuhei Mutsuki. Animation production is handled by Studio Teddy.

The adaptation was already announced in August 2025. The light novel first appeared as a web series on Shōsetsuka ni Narō from October 2018 to November 2022, before TO Books published it in print from May 2021. So far, five volumes are on the market, with an English version published by J-Novel Club. The manga adaptation, illustrated by Pochi Edoya, has been running on the Comic Corona platform since August 2021 and comprises six collected volumes. The total circulation of the series now exceeds 200,000 copies.

Both author Firehead, illustrator KeG, mangaka Pochi Edoya, and the staff expressed their enthusiasm in accompanying comments and provided insights into the production. The anime is expected to start on Japanese television in winter 2027; further details are to follow in the coming months.
