Urusei Yatsura - Episode 38

Episode 38 begins with Asuka's awkward tea date with Mendo, while Lum searches the Mendo estate for Ataru. She outsmarts the guards to clean the moat and flush Ataru out using electricity. When one of the guards starts undressing on Mendo's command, a horrified Asuka knocks Mendo out with a powerful punch. Ataru, who is disguised, seizes the moment to use Mendo as a puppet and continues the rendezvous unnoticed.

In the background, Tobimaro reflects on Asuka's love life, but Ryoko quickly silences him to avoid detection. The calm is shattered when Lum exposes Ataru, prompting Asuka to hurl both Ataru and Mendo into the air, leaving them to land in the moat amid the confused guards.

The chaos escalates further when Asuka, in a misguided attempt to stay close to Mendo, armors herself with parts of a tank. When her identity crisis and disguise are exposed, her mother intervenes with a bold proposal: she wants to set Asuka up with Ataru. Despite all protests, Asuka's mother ties Asuka and Ataru together and, for good measure, adds Tobimaro to the bundle. Lum suggests blindfolding Asuka to increase her tolerance for Ataru.

The episode spirals into a wild ride as Asuka tries to escape her fate, leading to misunderstandings and comedic mishaps typical of the series' style. The episode ends with Asuka, after a series of frantic but futile attempts to assert her independence, surrendering to her mother's wishes. In a final twist, Tobimaro and Asuka accidentally share a room, setting the stage for further antics.
