In the newly announced anime adaptation of the 1999 video game Legend of Mana, the story once again takes us to the world of Fa'Diel. The anime series, subtitled The Teardrop Crystal, is being produced by animation studios Graphinica and Yokohama Animation Lab.

Square Enix released the first game in the Seiken Densetsu (Mana) series as a Final Fantasy spin-off titled Seiken Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden (Final Fantasy Adventure) in 1991 for the Game Boy console. The second and third games, Secret of Mana and Trials of Mana, were released in 1993 and 1995 for the SNES, respectively. The game series has sold a total of 8 million copies worldwide.

The producer of the Mana series at Square Enix, Masaru Oyamada, commented on this announcement as follows:

"When the animation project was first proposed to me, the remastering of 'Legend of Mana' wasn't even under discussion. I initially attended the meeting without much thought, but when Mr. Yawata from Warner Bros. Japan passionately (and with so much love) brought up the 'Legend of Mana' animation project, I realized that I had to bring this game to life as soon as possible."
