Their motivation? The promise of clearing their debts. Amid this brewing storm, Thorfinn faces the choice of fleeing with Leif or standing by Einar and Arnheid—and chooses the latter.

Tension escalates when a messenger from Canute informs Ketil of his sentencing to ten years of outlawry.
