"WANDERLAST" by Onigunsou: First Volume Released, Promo Video with Akio Otsuka

With "WANDERLAST," Japanese manga artist Onigunsou presents a new series. The first volume of the series, designed as a "battle fantasy exploration story," was released on August 19 by Shueisha. To coincide with this, "WANDERLAST" adorns the cover of the September issue of the magazine Ultra Jump, which was published at the same time, where the series has been running since March 2026. The volume is available in Japanese bookstores and as a digital edition; the publisher provides a sample reading on its official website.

The story is set in a world where fairies once existed. They have long since disappeared, leaving behind only their petrified remains, known as "Wands." Those who can harness the powers sleeping within the Wands are called "Fairy Users." Protagonist Arata grows up in this world as an outsider and is treated poorly by society. Through his encounter with the mysterious, melancholic young woman Misa, his life takes a new direction: Together, they set out for the legendary "Fairy Graveyard," that fabled region where countless Wands are said to rest.

For those who want to get a first impression, the opening chapter can be read for free on the platforms Tonari no Young Jump and Young Jump+. Additionally, a promotional video was released to mark the volume's launch, with narration spoken by Akio Otsuka. Otsuka previously took on the role of Hako in the anime adaptation of "Mononogatari." The Tokyo-born voice actor is one of the most distinguished voices in the Japanese dubbing and animation industry, with engagements such as Black Jack, Solid Snake from the game series "Metal Gear Solid," or Daisuke Jigen from "Lupin III."

For Onigunsou, "WANDERLAST" is the first new series after the conclusion of his long-term project "Mononogatari," which ended in 2023 after a nine-year run in Ultra Jump. The first volume of the new series comprises 177 pages.
