The team behind the acclaimed anime film »Pompo: The Cinéphile« is working on its first feature-length original anime under the working title »WASTED CHEF«. A first teaser trailer has now been released, focusing on a meticulously animated hamburger – a true »food porn« experience.
The teaser shows a boy and a girl meeting in the rain and spending time together in a restaurant with the sign »THE DAY«. Particularly striking is the lavish animation of a hamburger with a juicy patty, crisp lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. Towards the end of the trailer, mysterious structures and an eerie light in the sky are visible, accompanied by the dark message: »On that day, ›you‹ and taste disappeared from the world.«
The film's plot revolves around a young chef who sets out in a world without taste and embarks on an adventurous journey – an unusual blend of culinary arts and science fiction. The project was already presented as part of the Annecy Animation Showcase at the 79th International Cannes Film Festival, where it garnered significant international attention.
Production is once again handled by Studio CLAP, which also produced »Pompo: The Cinéphile«. Direction and screenplay are by Takayuki Hirao, character design by Shingo Adachi (»Sword Art Online«, »Lycoris Recoil«), and music by Kenta Matsukuma (»Kamen Rider BLACK SUN«). The film is expected to hit theaters in 2027.
Parallel to the film, a manga adaptation will launch on June 4, 2026, in the magazine »Young Ace« (KADOKAWA). The illustrations are handled by Aero05, with the original creation by Takayuki Hirao. The series will tell the film's story in advance and provide initial insights into the world of »WASTED CHEF«.
