"Watashi ga Koibito ni Nareru Wake Nai Jan, Muri Muri! (Muri ja Nakatta!?)" will receive an anime adaptation in summer 2025

Mikami Teren's light novel "Watashi ga Koibito ni Nareru Wake Nai Jan, Muri Muri! (Muri ja Nakatta!?)" will be adapted into an anime in summer 2025. On November 19, the official website and social media channels were launched. At the same time, a teaser visual, promotional video, and information about the cast and production team were released.

The series is a "nonstop girls' love comedy" and follows the story of Renako Amaori, an introverted protagonist who reinvents herself for high school. Despite her successful "high school debut," Renako often feels drained by school life. Everything changes when she meets Mai Ohtsuka, the popular school icon and model of her friend group. Renako believes she has built a genuine friendship with Mai—until Mai suddenly confesses her romantic feelings.

The light novel received significant acclaim and won first place in the "New Works" category of the Next Light Novel Awards in 2021. By April 2023, over 500,000 copies of the series had been sold. A manga adaptation by Musshu is currently being serialized on Nico Nico Manga (Matari Dash X Comic).

Author Mikami Teren shared her thoughts on the creation of the work. It stemmed from her desire to see more "yuri" (girls' love) stories in the light novel genre. Mikami expressed delight that "girls' love comedy" is now recognized as its own subgenre.
