"Yani Neko": Music Video for Opening "Nanmo Nee" Brings Together Cast, Director, and Manga Creator

The Japanese rock band Wasureranneyo has released the music video for "Nanmo Nee," the opening theme song for the TV anime adaptation of "Yani Neko." In the clip, set in an underground facility reminiscent of a prison, not only the musicians gather, but also the voices and minds behind the series: Yuko Natsuyoshi, who lends her voice to the title cat Yani Neko, Toru Inada as the landlord, director Taku Kimura, and manga author Nyan Nyan Factory. Also joining are Akanezachiko, who stood out at the AnimeJapan 2026 booth with her Yani Neko cosplay, as well as guests who leave the boundaries of the "Yani Neko" world behind—an appearance that evokes memories of the gambling series "Kaiji" for connoisseurs, including Ito Koda. The direction was handled by Mani Kato, who has already directed numerous music videos for Wasureranneyo.

"Nanmo Nee" has been available as a digital single since July 2—the same day the series premiered on Japanese television. The song was written by Takahiro Shibata, the band's singer and guitarist, who is closely connected to the source material and wrote the title specifically for fans of the manga. For Wasureranneyo, this is their first anime collaboration in over ten years; the band last contributed the ending theme "C kara Hajimaru ABC" to the "Kaiji" season "Hakairoku-hen" in 2011. The opening animation had already sparked much discussion on social media, bringing the song and the series into the trends.

The series is based on the manga by Nyan Nyan Factory, serialized in Kodansha's "Young Magazine," and has been airing since July 2, 2026: TOKYO MX and BS11 show the episodes on Thursdays at 24:30, AT-X on Saturdays at the same time. The series is also available on numerous streaming services, including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, ABEMA, d Anime Store, Hulu, U-NEXT, and TVer. The ending theme is "Kemuri to Blue" by Necry Talkie. The animation is handled by Bibury Animation Studios, with direction by Taku Kimura from Studio Lemon; the screenplay is by Takashi Aoshima, character design by Chikara Matsuura, and music by Keiichi Suzuki. The cast includes, alongside Natsuyoshi and Inada, Misato Matsuoka, Yurie Funado, Ayaka Shimizu, Shiori Izawa, Rina Honzumi, and Riko Akechi.

Wasureranneyo has also announced that they will perform at the Nippon Budokan for the first time in 2028. On the way there, the band will bring their tour "We Love Iu" to Nagoya, Osaka, and Tokyo in August.
