Zenigata in focus: New Lupin film reveals doppelgänger plot

A new animated film based on the works of Monkey Punch from the series "Lupin III" has been announced. The title is "LUPIN THE IIIRD: Zenigata and the Two Lupins". In this production, the voice actor Horiuchi Ken'yū takes on the role of a mysterious imitator of the main character.

The plot serves as a prequel to the upcoming theatrical film "LUPIN THE IIIRD THE MOVIE: The Immortal Bloodline". It focuses on Inspector Zenigata and is set in the icy environment of the Soviet Union. Zenigata pursues Lupin III, who is suspected of carrying out a bombing at an airport. However, Lupin denies any involvement. During the investigation, a second, identical-looking man appears, claiming to be Lupin. Zenigata finds himself forced to confront this cold-blooded imitator.

Excerpts show the beginning with the bombing. A visibly outraged Zenigata expresses his horror at the innocent victims and vows to hold the responsible Lupin III accountable. At the same time, a confrontation occurs between the real Lupin and his doppelgänger. The imitator questions the true Lupin and asks about his motives for his thefts. The scenes hint at intense conflicts involving the well-known characters Daisuke Jigen, Goemon Ishikawa, Fujiko Mine, as well as Lupin III and Zenigata.
