The popular manga sequel "Zoku Thermae Romae" by Mari Yamazaki continues its serialization. After an interruption of about eight months, the 14th chapter was released on the platform "Shonen Jump+" on May 19, 2026. The previous chapter (Chapter 13) had been published on September 2, 2025.
The sequel is set 20 years after the end of the original "Thermae Romae." The Roman bathhouse architect Lucius has aged – he is approaching his 60th year – and is plagued by worries: his Japanese wife Satsuki has vanished without a trace, and his relationship with his son Marius is strained. As usual, Lucius travels through time to modern Japan to find new inspiration for his baths. The current Chapter 14 shows Satsuki and her grandfather Tetsuzō in the city of Itō in Shizuoka Prefecture, where the two live.
To celebrate the series' resumption, Shueisha announced that all chapters of the original "Thermae Romae" will gradually be made available for free on "Shonen Jump+." Starting May 19, all chapters except the first are accessible for a fee; the free unlock rotates weekly until the final chapter can be read for free.
The original manga by Mari Yamazaki was serialized from 2008 to 2013 in the magazine "Comic Beam" (KADOKAWA) and became an international success. It won both the Manga Taisho and the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in the Short Story category in 2010. The total circulation of the six volumes exceeds nine million copies. The material has been adapted multiple times: as an anime short series in 2012, as live-action films in 2012 and 2014 starring Hiroshi Abe, and as the Netflix anime series "Thermae Romae Novae" in 2022.
