Sukehiro Tomita is a Japanese scenario writer, manga author, and original creator born on April 14, 1948, in Saitama Prefecture, Japan. He began his career in the anime industry after studying at Nippon University College of Art, initially aiming for a role in live-action film lighting before turning to screenwriting. Following a period of training under senior writer Tatsuo Tamura at Toei, he made his debut as a writer in 1978 on the science fiction series Starzinger.
Tomita is particularly recognized for his work as a series composer and scriptwriter across numerous anime productions from the late 1970s through the 2000s. His portfolio includes significant contributions to mecha and science fiction franchises such as Space Runaway Ideon, Fang of the Sun Dougram, Genesis Climber MOSPEADA, and the original Super Dimension Fortress Macross television series. He also contributed to later entries in the Macross franchise as series composer for Macross 7 and writer for its sequel OVA, Macross Dynamite 7.
In the magical girl genre, Tomita holds a notable position as the original creator of the Wedding Peach franchise. The original manga for Wedding Peach, written by Tomita and illustrated by Nao Yazawa, was serialized in Shogakukan’s Ciao magazine from 1994 to 1996. This original story was subsequently adapted into a 51-episode anime television series in 1995, for which Tomita also provided the series composition and wrote numerous scripts. A later compilation of stories tailored for younger readers, Wedding Peach: Young Love, was released in 2004. Tomita also played a key creative role in the Sailor Moon anime franchise, serving as series composition writer for the original Sailor Moon, Sailor Moon R, and Sailor Moon S, and writing individual episodes across those series.
