Akira Okeya, also credited under the name Akira Okeya and written in Japanese as 桶谷顕, was a Japanese scriptwriter known for his extensive work in anime and tokusatsu television series. Born on March 10, 1959, in Kanagawa Prefecture, he had a career spanning from 1982 until 2006. He passed away on June 24, 2007.

Okeya was primarily a writer and series composer. His career in the 1980s and 1990s saw him contributing scripts to numerous long-running series, including episodes for classic franchises such as Doraemon, Perman, and various entries in the Gundam metaseries. He wrote for Mobile Suit V Gundam, Mobile Fighter G Gundam, and served as a main scriptwriter for the highly regarded original video animation Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team. He also contributed to series like the romantic comedy H2 and the children's series Kodomo no Omocha.

As a series composer, also known as series script supervisor, he was responsible for the overall narrative structure of several television series. His credits in this role include the fantasy series Chinpui, the science fiction show Candidate for Goddess, the action-comedy Grenadier, and Transformers: SuperLink.

One of his notable original creations is the anime Daisuki! BuBu ChaCha, also known as I Love Bubu Chacha. This series, which he wrote and for which he is credited as the original creator, first aired on NHK in 1999, with a second season following in 2001. The story of a boy and his dog reincarnated as a toy car exemplifies his work in family-oriented, slice-of-life storytelling.

His artistic identity was characterized by a versatility that allowed him to work across genres, from the mecha action of Gundam to the lighthearted comedy of shows like Obocchama-kun. In his later years, his credits included writing for the philosophical mecha series Zegapain. Through his work as both a scriptwriter and series composer, Akira Okeya contributed significantly to the landscape of Japanese animation for over two decades.
