He began his career as an illustrator in 1995.

He is best known as the original creator behind the animated film Dead Leaves. For this production, he was credited with the planning, original concept, and character designs, working in collaboration with the animation studio Production I.G. The film, directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi, was released in 2004 and was adapted from a comic of the same title by Imaitoonz. His other notable work in animation includes OVAL×OVER, a short film for which he served as the original creator and character designer, once again collaborating with Production I.G and director Hiroyuki Imaishi in 2005.

Beyond animation, his body of work spans multiple media. In the realm of character design, he contributed to the SEGA arcade game Fighting Vipers 2. His design work also includes character designs for a television commercial for Suntory C.C. Lemon, package character design for Dr Pepper, and the opening animation and character design for the MTV program TOP OF JAPAN. His artistic style is characterized by illustrations with a sense of speed and impact, reminiscent of American comics. In a 1999 interview, he described his personal principle as weaving affection and surprise into a single work. In 2002, he formed the unit YUTOONZ with illustrator Yutangpo Shirane.
