He began his acting career in 1998 after training at the acting academy and theater troupe Mumeijuku, founded by Tatsuya Nakadai, where he remained until 2007. While he is primarily known for his extensive work in live-action film and television, he has also performed voice acting roles in anime and video games.

In the realm of anime, Takitoh is recognized for providing the voice of the titular character, Maru, in the 2021 television anime series Kanashiki Debu Neko-chan (The Sad and Fat Cat). This series, which celebrates the 80th anniversary of the NHK Matsuyama Broadcasting Station, is an adaptation of a local tale from Ehime prefecture. The story centers on Maru, a well-loved but jealous house cat who leaves home after feeling replaced by a new pet.
