Ken'ei Obanazawa
Description
Ken'ei Obanazawa is the original creator of the Assault Lily mixed-media franchise. He is also known as Kenei Obanazawa and serves as the president of the creative group acus, under which he is frequently credited for his work on the series.
Obanazawa was born in 1976 in Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. Before establishing acus, he worked as an amateur modeler, displaying and selling his creations at hobby conventions. He was also employed part-time at the doll manufacturer Azone International around 2005. His personal interests, which have influenced his creative work, include yuri, architecture, video games, and doll collecting.
The Assault Lily franchise originated from Obanazawa's own model kits. He began developing the setting and backstory, initially titled Yurigaoka Private Girls' Academy, in 2005. The project was later turned into a commercial venture when he partnered with Azone International in 2011, leading to the release of the first Assault Lily action dolls in 2013. The franchise centers on teenage girls known as "Lilies" who use magical weaponry called CHARMs to fight against alien monsters known as the Huge.
As the original creator, Obanazawa is credited for the overarching concept and world-building of the series. His direct involvement extends to various adaptations. He is officially credited as the original creator for the anime television series Assault Lily Bouquet, which aired from October to December 2020, and its spin-off mini anime, Assault Lily Fruits, which was released from July 2021 to January 2022. He also participated in scenario meetings for the Assault Lily Bouquet anime.
Beyond the anime, his original work forms the basis of a wider media mix that includes stage plays, novels, manga such as Assault Lily League of Gardens -full bloom- and Assault Lily Last Bullet: Secret Garden Sweet Memoria, and the smartphone game Assault Lily Last Bullet.
