Ito began serializing this four-panel manga in Houbunsha's seinen manga magazine Manga Time Kirara Carat starting with the October 2014 issue, after initial guest features. The series is Ito's primary and most recognized work, and as of late 2025, it has been compiled into six tankōbon volumes.

The Demon Girl Next Door follows the daily life and adventures of Yuko Yoshida, a high school girl who awakens with demonic traits and is tasked with defeating the local magical girl, Momo Chiyoda. The manga has been adapted into a twelve-episode anime television series by J.C.Staff that aired from July to September 2019, followed by a second twelve-episode season broadcast from April to July 2022. Ito was also involved in the anime adaptation in a lyrical capacity, personally writing the lyrics for the first season's ending theme, Yoimachi Cantare.

Details about Ito's personal background indicate she is a female artist residing in Nagano Prefecture. She has expressed being a longtime player of the online game Ragnarok Online and has created fan works based on it. Beyond her own series, Ito has contributed illustration work to anthology comics for other franchises such as Kantai Collection, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and New Game!. She also contributed ending cards for the anime series Asteroid in Love and Is the Order a Rabbit? BLOOM.

Artistically, The Demon Girl Next Door is characterized by its comedic and slice-of-life tone, which subverts traditional magical girl and fantasy tropes by presenting a demon protagonist who is weak, impoverished, and forms a close friendship with her supposed rival. This approach has been noted for its blend of humor with deeper world-building and character development. The series gained significant cultural traction when a fan-generated line associated with the series, Shamiko is a bad girl, became a viral internet meme and won the Niconico Award as part of the 2019 Internet Buzzword Awards, an event for which Ito expressed gratitude towards the fans and production staff.

In the industry, Ito's work on The Demon Girl Next Door has been consistently published by Houbunsha and has been licensed for English release in North America by Seven Seas Entertainment. The series has experienced several publication interruptions due to the creator's health. Ito announced a temporary hiatus in November 2021 due to declining physical strength and eyesight, with further hiatuses announced in October 2022 and again in March 2024, during which the manga remains on hold.
