Junpei Inuzuka
Description
Junpei Inuzuka is a Japanese author best known as the original creator of the light novel series Restaurant to Another World. He is credited as the sole writer of the original story, which has since been adapted into multiple manga series and an anime television series.
Inuzuka began the story as a web novel, which he serialized on the user-generated content site Shōsetsuka ni Narō starting on January 4, 2013. Following its online success, the series was acquired for print publication. The first light novel volume was released on February 28, 2015, by Shufunotomo under their Hero Bunko imprint, with illustrations provided by artist Katsumi Enami. The light novel series remains ongoing, with the sixth volume published in October 2021.
The core premise of Inuzuka’s work centers on a modest Western-style restaurant in Tokyo called Nekoya. While closed to the general public on Saturdays, the restaurant's front door becomes a gateway to a fantastical other world. On these days, a diverse array of beings including elves, dragons, beastmen, and knights visit to enjoy Japanese interpretations of Western dishes. The narrative focuses on the food and the quiet, personal connections formed between the restaurant's chef and its extraordinary patrons.
Inuzuka’s original story has been adapted into several formats. The first manga adaptation, illustrated by Takaaki Kugatsu, was serialized in Square Enix’s Young Gangan magazine from November 2016 to June 2019. A second manga adaptation titled Isekai Shokudō ~Yōshoku no Nekoya~, illustrated by Morozawa Yamizawa, began serialization in Kadokawa Shoten’s Monthly Shōnen Ace in April 2021. An anime television adaptation of the light novel was produced, with a first season airing from July to September 2017 and a second season airing from October to December 2021. The series was licensed for English publication by Seven Seas Entertainment for the light novels and by Yen Press for the first manga adaptation.
