Hashigo Sakurabi

Description
Hashigo Sakurabi is a Japanese manga artist and illustrator who primarily creates works in the boys’ love genre. The creator is a woman, with a birth date of December 20th, and began her professional career in 2012 after earlier activity in the doujin circle under the names Hashigo and Gogo Yonji.

Sakurabi’s first commercial serialization began in 2012 in the magazine Drap. The first collected tankōbon volume, Toshishita Kareshi no Renai Kanri Zuki, was published in 2013. In 2014, the artist began what would become the most recognized work, Dakaretai Otoko 1-i ni Odosarete Imasu, initially as a short story before it became a full series.

The manga Dakaretai Otoko 1-i ni Odosarete Imasu, known in English as DAKAICHI -I’m being harassed by the sexiest man of the year-, is the creator’s most commercially successful work. It began serialization in Libre Publishing’s Magazine Be × Boy in July 2013 and has been compiled into multiple volumes, with total sales of the series surpassing 4.5 million copies. The series received an anime television adaptation produced by CloverWorks, which aired from October to December 2018. This was followed by an anime film adaptation covering the Spain Arc, which premiered in October 2021. The work has also been adapted into stage plays and numerous drama CDs.

Sakurabi’s artistic identity is characterized by a bright and lively drawing style with a strong attention to detail. In interviews, the creator has expressed a preference for stories featuring younger dominant partners, which is reflected in much of the work. The approach to storytelling emphasizes letting characters dictate the narrative rather than forcing them into a pre-set plot. The creator has also noted that the experience of writing scripts and directing in a high school drama club has influenced the approach to crafting scenes and tension in manga.

In terms of industry significance, Sakurabi gained early recognition by winning first place in the Best New Artist category at the BL Award in 2014. The commercial success of Dakaretai Otoko 1-i ni Odosarete Imasu established the work as a prominent title in the boys’ love genre, with its manga, drama CD, and home video releases frequently achieving top positions in sales charts in Japan. The creator’s career has included participation in international events, such as hosting autograph sessions in Taipei in 2015, and the works have been licensed for release in multiple languages.
